Australian Open for the Kelemen Kvartett
Â
Â
The barely one year old Hungarian Kelemen Kvartett that played it's Budapest debut this February just won the Silver Medal of the 'Australian Open' for chamber music ensembles, the 6th International Chamber Music Competition of Melbourne. This quadrennial contest is considered as one of the finest and one of the toughest of all. The Hungarian group hasn't only won the 2nd Prize but being all the way through the favorite of the public they also won the Audience Prize and maybe the most special prize the 'Musica Viva Grand Prize' that has never been given to other than the first prize winners and what means that the prestigious concert management - that independently made it's decision - will engage the Hungarian ensemble to play tours throughout Australia's best halls and festivals for many years.
Â
The prizes of the Kelemen Kvartett are not unique only because they play together little over a year ago among many groups that have been playing for maybe 8-10 years, but also because the founding leader Barnabás Kelemen is playing with his family in the quartet who happened to be the youngest in the whole competition. 21 years old 2nd violinist Gábor Homoki (student of Barnabás and Katalin at the Franz Liszt Music Academy - Budapest) is the godfather of Katalin's and Barnabás' 2nd child. Cellist Dóra Kokas is just starting her studies at the Franz Liszt Academy under Miklós Perényi's instructions and she happens to be the younger sister of Barnabás's wife Katalin Kokas who is the violist in the quartet. Barnabás Gábor and Katalin are equally comfortable on both the violin and the viola so they study all three parts of most of the pieces they play! The next appearance of the ensemble is at the 2nd. International Chamber Music Festival of Kaposvár www.kaposfest.hu where Katalin Kokas is the founding artistic director.

Second Kaposvar International Chamber Music Festival:
Our program is ready
03.03 2011
The Second Kaposvar International Chamber Music Festival will be organiyed between 12-20 August, 2011. The First Kaposvar International Chamber Music Festival brought an enormous success, and the organizers welcome all visitors with concerts, both classical and jazz, of the highest standard. The program will be published on the first of March.
In accordance with this year's program, the organizers' philosophy: the freedom of joy will be apparent, again. "The program offers a wide range both of exciting pieces of the highest standard, and of fantastic and world-class performers. I would like to put a special emphasis on the performance of Tehillim by Steve Reich, who is 75 this year, as well as performances by Miklós Perényi." - says festival director Gyorgy Bolyki.
As last year, the world's most valued and most interesting musicians will come to play at the Kaposvar Festival, and will show a new side of themselves. Most musicians have so far been known as soloists, but here, they will all play chamber music together. The wide range of variety can be seen from that pieces of Early Music played on contemporary instruments can be found in the program alongside music by gipsy classical composers.
Some of the performers are Zoltán Kocsis, Miklós Perényi, Peter Frankl, Alexei Ogrintchouk, József Lendvai, András Keller, Colin Curie, and José Gallardo (who was compared to András Schiff).
The program can be found on-line at www.kaposfest.hu. Tickets are available at major national ticket offices. It is recommended to join the festival's facebook-page where all the newest information will be posted. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kaposvar-Chamber-Music-Festival/290092867220

The Kaposvár International Chamber Music Festival carries on in 2011
15.12. 2010
The Second International Kaposvar Chamber Music Festival will be held between 12 and 20 August 2011. The first festival was a huge success in August 2010 with more than 13 000 visitors; outnumbering all prior expectations. In 2011, too, a number of well-known International and Hungarian musicians are going to perform at the festival.
The festival of 2011 will present the best known and the most popular musicians from a completely new side. Most of these artists are known as a soloist but here, they will be seen as members of chamber orchestras. Within the wide range of programs one can find pieces of early music performed on contemporary, 16-18th century instruments and pieces of the best known classical gipsy composers, along with pieces of the classic repertoire.
Some from the performing artists:
Zoltán Kocsis, Miklós Perényi, Péter Frankl, Alexander Longquich, Alexei Ogrintchouk, József Lendvai, András Keller, Colin Currie
Most of the concerts will take place at the SzÃvárvány Concert Hall, a venue with approximately 500 seats. The organizers believe that all the concerts will run full-house with two classical concerts in a day, similarly to last year's experiences.
It is recommended to check the website of the festival, as well as to join its facebook group, since all the latest information on the festival will be announced on these two forums.
